10 fade out
and here it is: my first solo album!
fades was created in the autumn/winter of 2004 with the finishing touches added this past spring. initially i had no aim to publish these tracks and the idea to release them on an album only emerged towards the end of production when i listened to all ten tracks successively.during the formation phase i had no desire to leave the house and making music became a good excuse to stay in. as a result of this, the tracks were produced using basic equipment in my room in berlin.
fades envelops my musical past with my present: at the age of 13 i started my first punk band totalschaden. by 1994 i was playing with the band ultra orange and was increasingly moving away from punk towards new wave. of this time, some wonderfully sad pop songs were born, enriched by the beautiful and clear voice of our singer claudia milic. needless to say at that time a number of peoplefaded away by our songs!
presently i am the drummer for the band beigeGT. our aim, in times of prevalent negativism, is to create a positive attitude towards life. as bart simpson says about the smashing pumpkins: making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.(the simpsons, folge 3f21, 7.staffel). bringing together indie rock and positive vibrations without embarrassment has now become the greater challenge.
concurrently with the creation of beigeGT, my brother introduced me to house and techno music and we began to dj and produce tracks together. known under the name of gebr. teichmann (teichmann brothers) we released our first records and created our own label festplatten. over the years my understanding of the word fades changed and lost its connotation of vanishing love: a djmixer has a crossfader and a channel fader, sounds fade in and out and bam! all of a sudden fades were the life and soul of the party.
so here are ten songs: often fragile and melancholic, somewhere between techno and indie rock, outlines and pop, with pathos and humour, at home with both the siberian vastness and german narrowness, rooted in the high life of metropolitan berlin and the dolce vita of provincial regensburg.
my good friend hans forster of indie pop gems as seaside stars and monster bronsons lent me his voice and sings they don´t care and tape with support from his monster bronsons band-mate mira van de witt. my brother hannes plugged in the moog, i unpacked my guitar and bass and my machines marched along with the tunes.
have fun listening!
