10 fade out

and here it is: my first solo album!

fades was created in the autumn/winter of 2004 with the finishing touches added this past spring. initially i had no aim to publish these tracks and the idea to release them on an album only emerged towards the end of production when i listened to all ten tracks successively.during the formation phase i had no desire to leave the house and making music became a good excuse to stay in. as a result of this, the tracks were produced using basic equipment in my room in berlin.

fades envelops my musical past with my present: at the age of 13 i started my first punk band totalschaden. by 1994 i was playing with the band ultra orange and was increasingly moving away from punk towards new wave. of this time, some wonderfully sad pop songs were born, enriched by the beautiful and clear voice of our singer claudia milic. needless to say at that time a number of peoplefaded away by our songs!

presently i am the drummer for the band beigeGT. our aim, in times of prevalent negativism, is to create a positive attitude towards life. as bart simpson says about the smashing pumpkins: making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel.(the simpsons, folge 3f21, 7.staffel). bringing together indie rock and positive vibrations without embarrassment has now become the greater challenge.

concurrently with the creation of beigeGT, my brother introduced me to house and techno music and we began to dj and produce tracks together. known under the name of gebr. teichmann (teichmann brothers) we released our first records and created our own label festplatten. over the years my understanding of the word fades changed and lost its connotation of vanishing love: a djmixer has a crossfader and a channel fader, sounds fade in and out and bam! all of a sudden fades were the life and soul of the party.

so here are ten songs: often fragile and melancholic, somewhere between techno and indie rock, outlines and pop, with pathos and humour, at home with both the siberian vastness and german narrowness, rooted in the high life of metropolitan berlin and the dolce vita of provincial regensburg.

my good friend hans forster of indie pop gems as seaside stars and monster bronsons lent me his voice and sings they don´t care and tape with support from his monster bronsons band-mate mira van de witt. my brother hannes plugged in the moog, i unpacked my guitar and bass and my machines marched along with the tunes.

have fun listening!

leo cubanero – wer hat an der uhr gedreht?

a1 gegen den uhrzeigersinn
a2 alarm

b1 zeitgeist
b2 zeitlos

who´s been fuckin with the clock? is it really that late already?
once leo will release us from his time vacuum back to the present there´s a chance it´ll be even later! on his third cut on festplatten. leo cubanero presents all sides, for all times. the cubanerically pulsating beats unite with modulated sounds to four tracks that easily do themselves credit.

gegen den uhrzeigersinn (anti clockwise) - playful cubanero-house to quickly lose any sense of orientation.
alarm (alarm) - techno a la cubanero; not sure if it´s only the alarm clock that´s ringing or if we are also hearing the bells of the underground.
zeitgeist (zeitgeist) - minimal funky trance, a preferred dish for the autumn season but leo has by far the best spices!
zeitlos (timeless) - sunshine in chicago … lovely old-school leo-house…

raumagent alpha – mangoldrausch

a1 mangoldrausch

b1 technoperette

raumagent alpha - third take: it was quiet around our agent recently. but if you think he was being lazy you got it all wrong. mr. alpha was busy transforming his set-up into a live-recording constellation. bored by the dry studio work he now records his tracks playing live in his studio. mangoldrausch transpires nothing but pure euphoria, machines going wild, rhythms pounding, oscillators vibrating, synths running hot and frequencies being bent in all directions. drum machines are trying to escape the whipping snare drum but the raumagent remains in control of each and every sound.

andi teichmann - wo die wilden kerle wohnen

a1 wo die wilden kerle wohnen

b1 so.ba
b2 myschkin

on his second solo coming on festplatten andi teichmann is heading straight to the wild boys … who intimidate small children with their sawtoothes and have the fuzzy syntheziser loops dance happily across the island. but the new king has come a long way to tell the wild boys tales of the big world. together they ride the deep bass waves down to sarajevo to the so.ba. where the dancefloor monster feels at ease and cheerfully plays its latest hookline on a xylophone. on the way back king andi spins more exciting and melancholic stories about the great depths of sibiria and the times he used to spend playing the organ with his friend myschkin … and all of a sudden the sun comes back up and we find ourselves in the middle of a club somewhere in middle earth … was this really only a dream?

hannes teichmann - heartcore

a1 dr. böhm

b1 tribute
b2 bonus beats

on heartcore hannes teichmann pours out not only his heart but also his second solo ep on festplatten. since our secret favourite wenn schon denn schon already dates a few years back it was more than time for a young and fresh successor. the element combining his two solo ep and especially the three tracks on heartcore is this subliminal and minimal funk that never seems to want to leave. still each track has its own face: a1 - dr. boehm – is a 12min trance-funk-epic that comes from nowhere, settles on a hypnotic organ melody and just becomes bigger and bigger until the huge break. the end of the break has been marked on the vinyl for those who are looking for less dynamic in their set. that way the 7-minute-prime-time- mix is already included in the 12-min clubmix. the b-side starts with tribute and pays homage to the old detroit heroes and a not unknown scandinavian. in other words turning a minimal nation into a minimal world. the last track bonus beats will be booming in loud cars and making djs try out their scratch skill and freestyle raps. as always the ep is rounded up by 3 endless loops - 4/4 kick drum, 2/4 snare and and 8- time-shaker.

gebr. teichmann - remixe

a1 mediengruppe telekommander - kommanda (gebr. teichmann acid hop mix)

b1 pelzig - cecilias on the run (gebr. teichmann mix)
b2 beigeGT - faq (gebr. teichmanns grambamboli acid hop mix)

at long last a sign of life of the teichmann brothers themselves! the two label operators are back with (three) remixes …
first of all there’s kommanda acid hop mix for mediengruppe telekommander. this mix was so far only available as mp3 and on the promotional cd accompanying the die ganze kraft einer kultur (’the whole power of a culture’) tour. german rap with an austrian accent meets acid and wild scratches. paired with a dash of revolution an explosive mixture! we call it…acid hop! the b-side starts with a mix for the bavarian indie-rockers pelzig. cecilias on the run is one of the best tracks on pelzig’s last album drive your engine clean, published two years ago by the weilheimer label payola. previously unreleased due lack of money the teichmanns unleashed this wonderfull rocker and you can finally rave to their spiced up mix. and last but not least the faq grambamboli acid hop mix, kind of an ‘autoremix’, as the two teichmann brothers were already playing moog and drums for beigeGT’s original version. this mix captures the energy of the original while heading into a new direction: the angry rocking offbeatstomper morphs into a funky ravemonster with beigeGT singer martin haygis taking much pleasure in bawling at the listener. we call it…acid hop!

leo cubanero - 1/8 punkt irrt

a1 1/8 punkt irrt

b1 chipchip
b2 warm

leo cubanero - 2nd round.
after his successful debut on festplatten (fest 17 - bugfix ep) - which made it all the way to japan and number one in fumiya tanakas´ charts of the year - leo cubanero from berlin has finished his next record for festplatten: a unique mixture of subtle beats and complete
unpredictability. the warm and heavily syncoped tracks don´t stick along the lines of functional constructivism but create their own natural universe. leo is a fantastic dancefloor host. not only does he take us by the hand to lead us through his musical labyrinth (microhouse meets detroit meets basic channel meets berlin) but also does he impress us with 8hour-livesets (!) from time to time…

markus müller - stakkato

a1 prise

b1 spritzer
b2 pfund (re prise)

our star chef markus müller gets ready for second servings! he uses the same ingredients as for his quattro stagione-ep but strongly convinces through even finer compositions. the full a-side track topped with 5 loops and two more delicious pieces on the b-side have our mouths already water when thinking of his next recipe. but before this meal gets cold let´s get ready to mix 1 teaspoon trance, 2 cups of house and 3 kg of acid. have a good meal!
